I was invited to participate in an international social work conference at National Taiwan University in September 2006. We we were able to add several travel days to our trip and here are a few of the things we saw and experienced.

One of the highpoints of our trip was meeting Sophia and her cousin Thomas. Sophia is the sister of one Ling, one of my students at the University. Sophia and Thomas were two of the most friendly and charming people I've met. As young professionals they were very informed about their country and city, and answered all of our many questions. They also treated Elaine and me to three marvelous dinners at some of the top restaurants in Taipei. This was thanks to the generosity Sophia's and Ling's parents, whom we were not able to meet because they live in the southern part of Taiwan. We hope Sophia and Thomas, and Sophia's and Ling's parents can visit us in the U.S. someday so we can return their wonderful hospitality.
