Motorcycles, BMWs in particular, are my current passion. It all started innocently enough when I bought a Honda Helix scooter in 1991 to commute back and forth to work. I was having lots of fun with the Helix, and eventually got interested in taking some longer rides. My wife asked to go along but I said it didn't have the capacity to haul two people comfortably. Her response: "Then why don't you get something that does?" That was all it took! It was 2004, and within a few weeks I had my first motorcycle.

Here, in chronological order, is a listing of the bikes I've owned and how they found their way into my garage. A click on any of the bikes will take you to a page with more info and photos.

BMW K75 (1993)  -- I bought this one in 2004 after searching the want ads in the local paper. The bike was in nice shape, I rode it home, and I was off and riding...  I sold the K75 in 2006. It was difficult to part with the bike, and I regretted selling it, and eventually another K75 found its way home.

R1100RS (1999)  -- While visiting our son and his family in Minneapolis over the 2005 New Year I happened on to a "99 RS at a dealer. He accepted my ridiculously low offer, so we trailered it back to Cleveland. I sold the RS in 2009, along with my LT, and replaced them with a K1200GT.

A few weeks later I was telling my good friend Stuart Kirk, an avid biker, that I was going to have to sell the K75 to make room in the garage for the RS, to which he replied "I don't know anyone that has just one motorcycle!" That took care of that, and I kept the two bikes for a while, but sold the beloved Helix soon thereafter.

K1200LT (2001) -- In anticipation of our 2-up tour of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland in the summer of 2006 I found a nice LT (a luxury touring bike) locally and purchased it. By 2009 I had tired of lugging the big 800 pound "Blue Pig" and sold it to make room for the GT.

F650CS (2003) -- After selling the K75 I decided I wanted another smaller, lighter, and more fuel efficient bike for around town. In November 2007 I purchased the CS in New Jersey not far from where my other son and his family live. The F650CS was a nice bike, but it just didn't quite feel like a real motorcycle, so I sold it a year later.

K75/2 (1994)  -- By 2008 I was really missing my '93 K75 and tried to track down the young man who bought from me 2 years earlier, but I didn't have any luck. By fall I found a '94 K75 with ABS and low miles in Connecticut, and rode it back to Cleveland.

K1200GT (2003) -- This GT, which I found in Akron, was a replacement for the RS and LT. It had the same marvelous engine as the LT, but was 200 pounds lighter. It's a mile-eating cruising machine!

Triumph Tiger (2006) -- Having just retired in the summer of 2010 I was visiting my older son, now living in Seattle, and it occurred to me that I should probably have a bike out there, too. I began looking for a BMW GS (dual-sport model) but found instead a very nice 2006 Triumph Tiger at the local BMW dealer.

R1150GS (2001) -- My plans are firming up to ride the Trans-Labrador Highway in summer 2011. I wanted to leave my Tiger in Seattle, so I bought this GS from a local dealer.
