BMW K1200LT

My third BMW is a 2001 K1200LT in beautiful Pacific Blue, Elaine's favorite color. This is BMW's "luxury touring" bike, complete with heated seats and grips, cruise control, power windshield, electric reverse, and a very comfortable seat for Elaine. It is a heavy bike, but solid and confident on the highway -- very capable of extended touring. I think we'll like it!

The LT served us well on our tour of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. It is a comfortable,
powerful and smooth bike. The cruise comes in handy for freeway cruising.

I installed the mount for my Garmin Quest using a co-pilot shelf from BMR Products. The Quest is a great portable GPS which I move from bike to bike and to the car, and the co-pilot shelf locates it near my
line of vision so I don't need to take my eyes off the highway.

I removed the top case and with the help of Leon, my brother-in-law, fabricated a "Cleveland rack" to replace it. The bike handles dramatically different, minus the 35 pound top case perched up high and back.

The rack is made of 3/8" polycarbonate and painted
metallic silver to match the trim on the LT. I want to
find bolts that I can counter sink into the top of the rack
for a neater appearance.

I went on a shake-down cruise down into Amish country to make sure all is ready for my trip to Alaska in two weeks. I decided I'll go with the top case for convenience and security. Services performed within the past month include changing all the fluids, flushed brakes and clutch, serviced shift linkage, adjusted valves, installed new plugs, air filter, battery, bug-guards for the radiators, headlight guard, Wilburs shocks, HID low beam headlight, and a new front Bridgestone tire.
