Herman De Hoogh, a colleague in The Netherlands, describes the MAM (see below) and its application: The purpose of the observation model 'MAM' is to get an assessment of how much time of the communication during a
team meeting can be characterized as problem-oriented or solution-focused. It is a
non-threatening and respectful way to shift the attention of a team towards a conscious level of what they are talking about and the model can be used in
problem-oriented, solution-focused or 'mixed' teams. It is important to get a mandate of the team or the
team leader before using it. The MAM can be used during the meeting or afterwards when you have
audio taped the meeting. There is a choice of coding the ongoing communication (L-1, R-1 and so forth) or coding the actions of the observer/participant (T, DS, PS and so forth) or to do it both. In fact you can make a linguistic analysis this way of a particular meeting and it is possible to record time and calculate percentages and put it in nice grafic figures for giving feedback to the team.
